O’Connell St.Mayo
Bourke Builders carried out the refurbishment of Sligo Post Office, a protected structure and an Edwardian building dating from 1901. The works to the building included the removal of the limestone coping stones at the upper level together with the renewal of the lead trays and flashings. In order to carry out this work it was necessary to deconstruct and rebuild sections of the brickwork facade which also involved re-pointing brickwork and string courses with lime mortar. The refurbishment of the roof involved the replacement of the entire roof surface together with the re-instatement of the ridge and hip capping. Bourke Builders have years of experience from working on buildings of a similar nature.

- This red brick, bow fronted building is topped by a hipped roof hidden behind a parapet.
- It is a protected structure and an important piece of Sligo’s architectural history and of the town’s infrastructure.
- It is situated in the heart of Sligo town, at the busy junction of Lower Knox Street and O’Connell Street which necessitated the completion of a detailed traffic management plan.
